Upper Isabel Residential Renovation
From interior design to custom pieces, DWC created an indigenous inspired space in this suburban home. Working closely with our client and their vision, we made extensive architectural changes to construct an open-plan, modern family home, encompassing the uninterrupted views of Table Mountain.
The main aspect of the design brief was to bring the outside in, which we managed to achieve in various different ways. The most challenging, yet rewarding, being tilting the pitch of the roof upwards to emphasize the mountain views. The second way in which this concept was achieved was through the long bench seating in the main dining area. Not only do the sliding windows open seamlessly and stow away unseen to feel as though you are outside, but the bench seating alongside it, covered in outdoor fabrics, allows for messy kids with wet cozzies to pile in for lemonade and summer lunch around the large dining table.
The entire living and entertainment area embraces our unique open-plan South African lifestyle. The kitchen is within full view of the lounge, dining and braai area to allow for inclusion, while the television can be rotated towards the indoor braai area so that not a second of rugby is missed.
We collaborated with De Steyl to design a custom coffee station, to complement the client’s love for coffee, and drinks cabinet. Incorporating the client’s existing furniture with custom design elements such as these made the space modern and contemporary, while still maintaining a familiar homeliness.
